ExpoForum has helped the citizens of Pushkin in reconstruction of family history

About 70 citizens of Pushkin addressed the staff of the archive of the Military Medicine Museum in order to learn the fate of their relatives who had been lost during the Great Patriotic War. The charitable action devoted to the Victory Day was arranged by ExpoForum jointly with the Military Medicine Museum and the administration of Pushkin Region.

The temporary public office of the archive of the Military Medicine Museum was working in Pushkin on May 7 and 8. In the office, there were stored the materials related to the Great Patriotic War. In the improvised reception room organised in a minibus provided by ExpoForum, there were archive specialists. They were receiving requests, giving consultations on dealing with the archives to all who have addressed them. The visitors were generally grandsons and great grandsons of those who had defended in vicious fights Russian present peaceful days.

The action enabled the citizens to learn more about their relatives and friends who had been killed or missing during the fights of the Great Patriotic War. Without leaving the town they could learn the places of their graves. Totally, over 50 requests have been executed. The citizens whose questions could not be answered by the specialists of the archive of the Military Medicine Museum got the addresses of the archives with the data needed as well as recommendations on making requests.

Within a month the archivists will be processing the requests received during the days of the action. The information will be provided to the relatives as early as in June.

The charitable action is of particular importance for ExpoForum. The company is a developer of the construction project of an international convention and exhibition centre in the area of Shushary settlement with the legendary military historical border. It’s in this place that the united forces of Leningrad had halted the attack of the fascist invaders against Leningrad in 1941. Then Leningrad front troops began an attack in January 1944. As a result, Pushkin was liberated and the blockade of Leningrad was lifted.

The committee of European Trotting Union met for the first time in Russia

This unparalleled event took place within the business programme of the XIV International Horse Exhibition “Hipposphere”. Specialists from Russia, Austria, Finland, France and Sweden, gathered together to propose some regulations on the horse treatment during the races.

The working group met behind closed doors. Russia was represented by the Vice President of the Russian Trotter Breeding Association Alla Polzunova, and the President of the Horse Veterinarian Association Ekaterina Zabegina.

The session was opened by Alla Polzunova who told the members of the European Trotting Union the history of Oryol trotters, the first trotting bread in the world that won numerous international races, reflecting its glory on Russia. It is for these horses that the famous harness “troika”, one of Russian symbols, was created. Russia nearly lost the bread twice in the XX century: the population reduced to 500 animals during the Civil War, and there were only 700 horses survived on the stud farms during the post-perestroika period. Thanks to international support programmes, Russia managed to preserve the Oryol trotters, and their population is over five thousand now.

The Horse Welfare Committee of European Trotting Union was formed on the initiative of the General Secretary of the Council of Europe, and holds its sessions once a year in one of European countries. According to Ekaterina Zabegina, the fact of choosing Russia this year shows a great interest in our domestic horse-breeding industry. "In terms of the scale of the event and the level of decisions made, this meeting is a highlight of the whole business programme of the exhibition," she emphasised.

The regulations proposed at the Hipposphere will be later considered by supreme European authorities.

Horses help to cope with stress

On the fourth of May, within the framework of the business programme of the XIV St. Petersburg International Horse Exhibition "Hipposphere", traditional conferences on horse veterinary medicine and methods of hippotherapy took place.

The doping control became one of the main themes to discuss at the VIII International Conference on Problems of Horse Veterinary Medicine.

Some reports were given by the president of Horse Veterinary Society of Russia Ekaterina Zabegina, a veterinary surgeon of Intervet Company Evgeny Grechukhin , the dean of the Department of Hippology and Veterinary Science of the National Open Institute of Russia Nikolay Zelenevsky, and by other specialists of veterinary science.

According to Ekaterina Zabegina, the rules on the doping control used in Russia, are written down in the World Anti-Doping Code. It is planned to implement American system of anti-doping fund formation – in the USA, every participant of competitions pays a 7 dollar fee for the doping control. Winning horses are usually tested immediately after competitions. “Today there is an opposition of European and American systems for the doping control. Unlike Europe, corticosteroids, muscle pills, and other drugs prohibited in EU are permitted in the USA”, she noted.

The speakers of the conference “Hippotherapy. Invalid Equestrian Sport. Experience and Prospects” were employees of the Centre of Rehabilitation of Person Disabled Since Childhood "Nash Solnechny Mir" (Our Solar World), representatives of the National Federation of Medical Riding and Invalid Equestrian Sport, and also other professionals of horse business.

A representative of St. Petersburg University of State Fire Service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia Anna Linkina, told about emotional changes of a person as a result of communication with horses. According to Anna, one of modern techniques of correction of the mental state of a patient is hyppotherapy. The results of her investigation showed that about 50 % of the examinees felt considerably better, and their anxiety level of 83 % decreased after communication with horses.

St. Petersburg has been recognised as one of the best tourist destinations of Europe

A popular web-site for travellers, Tripadvisor has ranked the best tourist destinations of Europe. St. Petersburg was placed the 15th in the list, having appeared more attractive than Vienna, Munich and Budapest.

The head of Rostourizm Alexander Radkov has declared in April that Russia was in top ten of the most visited countries in the world; about 25 million tourists had visited Russia in 2011. Most travellers arrived from the Baltic countries, Germany, Poland and Finland.

The world leaders for reception of foreign tourists in 2011 were France (approximately 80 million), the United States (62 million), Spain (56.7 million), Italy and China. Russia, which is placed the 6th, was visited by 24.93 million foreign visitors; among them there were 5.47 million business tourists. In comparison with the last year the overall growth in the number of country visitors was 12%. The number of business-travellers to Russia including those arriving to exhibitions, conventions, forums has increased by 24%.

ExpoForum will hold a charity event devoted to the Victory Day

ExpoForum together with the administration of Pushkin district and Military and Medical Museum will hold a charity event on May 7 and 8. In Pushkin city, there will be opened a temporary public office of Military and Medical museum archives with some materials of the Great Patriotic War.

Citizens of the city Pushkin and its environs will be able without leaving the city to make a request for an archive letter confirming the fact of an injury or a disease received during military actions, or to find out some information about the fate of the relatives who died in military hospitals during the Great Patriotic War.

The public office will be in the van provided by the ExpoForum company. The van will be located on May 7 and 8 at the cross road of Moskovskaya and Oranzhereynaya streets with the access from the side of the Cathedral of Saint Catherine. The operation hours: from 10.00 till 18.00.

National Horse Park to Open in Ufa

Experts discussed the prospects of racing business in Russia and the concept of national horse park in Bashkiria at the first international conference on National Horse-Breeding and Hippodrome Business within the business program of Hipposphere, an annual international horse exhibition.

According to Ildar Akhmetov, Deputy Director of Akzubat hippodrome, the project of national horse park has already been approved by the Government and the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Bashkortostan. The exhibition will tell about Bashkir traditions and include a model of aul, a street of medieval crafts, and a small horse theater for equestrian shows and historical performances. Moreover, an equestrian centre where each comer can hire and learn to ride a horse will become an essential part of the park.

The conference agenda also included the report by Alla Polzunova, Vice President of the Russian Trotter Breeding Association. The Association takes an active part in the revival of national racing business. It has been organizing Great Tracks - horse races covering several regions of the country - since 2007. In particular, the development of local racing business was mostly fostered by the Siberian Track which includes horse races in Krasnoyarsk, Altay, Abakan, Novosibirsk, and Omsk. The All-Russian Oryol Trotter Festival first held in 2010 pursues the same national horse-breeding promotion goal.

According to Ms. Polzunova, the racing business has been going through the tough times over the past four years. The major challenge that hinders its development is a betting ban. Deprived of this effective payback source, the racing business faces serious problems. “Organizers have to spend at least 200 thousand roubles on a prize,” Vice President told.

Russian experience was benchmarked against Europe where horse racing betting is booming. Senior Advisor of Suomen Hippos, a trotting and breeding association, Matti Lakkisto told about the Finnish practice. Last year the betting turnover of our northern neighbors was EUR 248 million of which EUR 179 million (i.e. 74%) returned to the race participants.

Russian Troika Brought Guests to Hipposphere Opening

Hipposphere, an international horse exhibition, opened at Lenexpo on May 4. The participants cut the symbolic red ribbon right on the manege arranged in the exhibition hall.

Pavel Belov, Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Physical Education and Sports; Alexander Varenov, Deputy Chairman of the Regional Committee for Agribusiness and Fishing; Alexander Timchenko, General Director of Rosplemkonzavod; Alla Polzunova, Vice President of the Russian Trotter Breeding Association; and Larisa Smetanina, Head of the Exhibition Department of ExpoForum, enjoyed the privilege to open the fourteenth exhibition.

Mr. Varenov noted the positive tendency in the project development, “The geography of participants expands and the number of visitors grows every year.”

Mr. Timchenko mentioned that the exhibition had every reason to be one of the leading Russian horse-breeding projects as its stimulating effect on sector development can scarcely be exaggerated.

This year Hipposphere is organized by ExpoForum. “When composing the exhibition portfolio of Lenexpo, we decided to keep this project which attracts numerous visitors but is extremely complex in terms of organization,” explained Ms. Smetanina. The exhibition will be held in Lenexpo's pavilions till 2014 and then move to a new congress and exhibition center constructed by ExpoForum on Peterburgskoye Highway. It is supposed to be one of the largest complexes in the Northwestern Russia.

Ms. Polzunova stressed the relevance of three Oryol trotters on the manege, “Troika is a traditional symbol of Russia. The exhibition will demonstrate the best breeds our country is so proud of.”

Online Piracy Undermines Literary Market

Domestic and foreign experts discussed the structural changes in the European book sector over the last two years and the copyright issues on the Web at the VII Saint Petersburg International Book Saloon.

The representative of the Swedish Writers’ Union told the reasons why the European book retailers faced with slumping sales. She noted that the European book market analysis could help specialists predict the future situation in Russia. “Retail book sales in Sweden have dropped by 10% so far because on-line stores are increasingly popular among the readers today. Indeed, there is nothing easier than shopping online. The Internet offers more detailed information on publications and offers a greater choice of books!”

Online sales in Europe account for 30% of the total market volume now, while in Russia, they are much fewer– only 4-6%. The online piracy is to blame.

According to Vadim Uskov, Russia is currently facing the problem that the USA solved as early as in 1960s when clear laws prescribing severe sanctions for copyright infringement were adopted. In the US scheme, Internet providers must report on those who uploaded illegal content or block such content for three days. A similar inquiry in Russia is examined within 60 days, and this does not mean that access to content will be blocked.

“With illegal content distributed in the Internet, the intelligentsia, intellectual workers, may just fade away one day,” – he concluded.

St. Petersburg Claims to be the World’s Literary Capital

The Days of France opened at the VII St. Petersburg International Book Salon on April 27. Vice-Governor of St. Petersburg Vasily Kichedzhi, First Deputy Mayor of Nice Benoit Kandel, and Culture Adviser at the Embassy of France and Director of the French Institute in St. Petersburg Hugo de Chevaniac welcomed the guests and participants.

Nice’s Book Fair (Salon du livre de Nice) became the honorary guest of St. Petersburg Book Salon within the Days of France in St. Petersburg. It will present such projects as Russian Presence in the Literary Landscape of Nice by Olympia Alberti, Solzhenitsyn’s role in France by Bertrand le Meignen, and Nice is the City of Culture by Partick Besson. In addition, the guests will have a chance to enjoy French demonstration lessons for beginners, a meeting with Andrien Goetz, a contemporary French detective novelist, and a photo exhibition titled 100 Monuments – 100 Writers in the presentation area.

Mr. Kichedzhi noted that Russia and France were united by the ties of close friendship in the various fields. The cross year of Russian and French language and culture in 2010 was so successful that the countries decided to continue their fruitful co-operation.

According to Mr. Kandel, St. Petersburg has every reason to become the world's literary capital. Just after the opening ceremony, the guests visited the round table where the strategy of St. Petersburg promotion as the world's book capital was discussed.

“We can not advice on promotion activities as the quality of the salon organisation shows that St. Petersburg has made a great leap forward. Nice's Book Fair will take place in June, and we will try to attain to St. Petersburg's level,” Benua Kandel said.

Hogo de Chevaniac offered to create a “residence of foreign authors” as a city promotion tool. France has certain experience in arranging the long stay of foreign writers in the country, which enables them to get to know the city inside, to form their own view and find inspiration for portraying it in their new works.

Yakov Gordin, a Russian historian, added that to promote St. Petersburg in the literary arena, we should introduce the books by national authors to the market and enhance their attractiveness for foreign publishers.

This summer the Hanging Garden will be opened in the Hermitage

The reconstruction works of the Hanging Garden in the Small Hermitage for the view of 1845 are nearing completion. In the summer it will be its official opening. The researcher of the State Hermitage Museum, Maria Dubrovskaya, said about it at the conference held in the frames of the International Festival of flowers and landscapes in the “Lenexpo”.

Despite the relatively small amount of work, the restoration of the garden took about seven years. The most significant problem that had to overcome was the flowing system of waterproofing.

Gardens and parks occupy an important position in the face of St. Petersburg and its suburbs, and it is not surprising that the scientific and practical conference “The Life historical of parks and gardens in the modern conditions” has become the central event of the International Festival of flowers and landscapes. Landscape architects, researchers, curators of parks – more than 70 experts discussed the current situation concerning urban and suburban parks and gardens.

One of the problems is the account of old trees. According to the inventory in 2007, only in the public gardens of the 1,700 specimens about 800 ones live more than a century. The importance of conservation and breeding was explained by the Chairman of the Landscape architecture Council of the St. Petersburg Union of Architects Andrew Reiman: “Seedlings of European nurseries are not always suited to our natural environment, so using the genetic material of the old trees could be more suitable specimens for planting.”

According to him, the account of old trees has long been held around the world. In St. Petersburg, this process is just beginning. “Most of our orders were received from suburban parks: Tsarskoye Selo, Pavlovsk, Peterhof, – the General Director of “PiK” company Valentina Konstantinova said. – But I hope that old-growth trees in the city also will receive passports.”

The chief curator of Pavlovsk Park Svetlana Fedorova told about difficulties of the park territory restoration. Work has been going on for over 70 years, but the end is not in sight. The main problem in the restoration of so large landscaped park as Pavlovsk is saving the stylistic and compositional unity of the territory during the restoration of individual sites.

Writers of Saint Petersburg Are to Get Significant Support from Administration

The VII Saint Petersburg International Book Salon started its work in Lenexpo. Within four days the guests of the exhibition can meet with the authors of world best-sellers, buy books without retail mark-up and visit over 250 business and entertaining events.

After the opening ceremony the guests visited the 2^nd International Writers Forum to take part in the discussion on growth of world interest to the Russian history through books. Sergey Stepashin wistfully noted that editions of historical books in Russia have been going down lately: ‘An average edition of a book in our country amounts to 6,500 copies, while an edition of a historical book is not exceeding 5,000 copies. Therefore, less than 0.01 % of Russians will be able to read a book printed in such edition.’

Among the participants of the Forum was the Archimandrite Tikhon who stated the necessity to elaborate a governmental strategy for cultural development and maintenance of ethic and moral state of the citizens. According to him the idea of strategy elaboration has already been supported by a number of core associations and unions, as well as by the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill.

Festival of Flowers and Landscape Design Opened by the Governor of Saint Petersburg

Improvement and planting of the city play an important role in the work of the city administration. Presence of Georgiy Poltavchenko, the Governor of Saint Petersburg, at the opening ceremony of the International Festival of Flowers and Landscape Design confirms this fact. ‘Our city deserves to be well-attended and decorated, in order to make the citizens happy and to energize our guests’ – noted the Governor.

Sergey Voronkov, the Executive Director of ExpoForum JSC told about the plans of the Company on festival project development: ‘Next year we plan to expand the exhibition for at least twofold by means of introducing new subjects and sections. I think that many people will be interested in the issue of courtyards improvement, we will present the experience of our Dutch colleagues within the frames of the international collaboration project ‘The Year of Holland in Russia’.

On the same day, on April 26, the Regional Floristry Championship ‘Nevsky Fleur’ started. Among the jury there are specialists of the National Guild of Florists, floristic studio of Alexander and Vladimir Bermyakov, floristic school ‘Plant-A’ and Moscow salon ‘Tsvety na Sretenke’. In the course of the first day each of the four participants shall create three flower compositions based on the fairy tales by the brothers Grimm. The second tour of the competition and review take place tomorrow. The winners will challenge to take part in the Professional Floristry Championship of Russia.

The first in Russia project of returning the wild horse to the nature will be presented in Lenexpo

Przhevalsky's horses, almost exterminated in the 19th century, survived in world zoos and now will be returned to their historical homeland – Orenburg steppes. The unique project of reintroduction of Przhevalsky's horse will be presented on May, 7th in Lenexpo within the “Hipposphere” exhibition. In Russia, it will be the first attempt to return the wild horse to the nature.

The “Return of Przhevalsky's horse” project participants of Russian Geographical Society will move some tens of individuals from zoos of Europe to the steppes of Orenburg region in order to return to the region this type of rare hoofed animals. Horses lived here till the middle of the 19th century, but with the development of agricultural industry they were exterminated by man. In the next two years, the first batch of animals will be delivered to a protected territory called “Orenburg Tarpania” ('tarpan' was the name for wild horses living once in the steppes).

Przhevalsky's horse appears in the Red Book as a type being under the threat of disappearance. More than two thousand individuals living in the world zoos now exist. Some free populations are created recently in Mongolia and China: 300-400 horses originating from zoo animals as well.

The project of reintroduction of Przhevalsky's horse is implemented within actions for preserving and recovery of steppe ecosystems of Russia supported by Global Environment Foundation and under the aegis of the Development Programme of the United Nations.

Green light to the Automechanika St. Petersburg exhibition

On April 12 an exhibition of vehicle components, spare parts and equipment for garage and car service centers Automechanika St. Petersburg 2012 was opened at Lenexpo. The first day of the exhibition "Automechanika St. Petersburg" 2012 has finished. "Business Contacts Exchange" and activities of the business program were the most successful. "Automechanika St. Petersburg" is the first time in the format 2b2: now it is focused primarily on the professional community.

153 meetings were held on the first day of the exhibition thanks to the "Business Contacts Exchange" – an effective system of prior appointments of the exhibitors and visitors. About 50 negotiations were held at the stands of the exposure.

Within the business program five major events took place. In particular, more than 170 professionals attended the plenary session, during which were made the following reports: "The role of the automobile cluster of St. Petersburg in the city's economy," "The development of inspection in the Russian Federation", "Prospects for the implementation of management systems certification for compliance with the ISO / TS 16949:2009" and others.

70 experts were at the conference "Development of cooperation between Polish and Russian companies in the field of auto mechanics." In his welcoming speech to the conference participants Head of department of Trade and Investment Promotion of the Consulate General of Poland Mr. Khenrykh Bushta has hoped that the conference will be the launching pad for joint projects between Russian and Polish companies.

More than 60 persons became the guests for reports presented at the round table "Alternative fuels for modern vehicles." Among them: "The strategy of implementation of the development of safe and environmentally friendly vehicles KAMAZ", "Gas fuel systems DVM and presentation of the first Russian professional training and practical guide for professional road transport with natural gas fuel systems for internal combustion engines," "Overview of the British electric market" and others.

More than 40 specialists went to field seminar, "The introduction of modern information technology for management of urban passenger transport and the organization of collecting fares," which was organized in the Committee for Transport under the Government of St. Petersburg

As part of the exposure project "Automechanika St. Petersburg" more than 100 companies from Russia, Britain, Germany, India, Spain, Italy, China, Poland, Turkey, Estonia and Japan represent their products. Compared to last year the exhibition area will increase by three times. About 50% of the total number of exhibitors is foreign participants – a rare fact for Russian exhibitions. In parallel with the "Automechanika St. Petersburg" 2012 the Motor Show of Commercial Vehicles "InAVTOTRANS" is organised, it demonstrate models of buses, trucks and other special vehicles.

The official opening of the Forum “Senior Generation” was on Astronautics day this time

The Official Opening Ceremony of the VII International Forum titled “Senior Generation” was conducted on April 12, at Lenexpo exhibition complex. It is the first project in today’s Russia covering the complete range of products and services for the senior people.

Although the Forum started working on April 11, the Official Welcoming Ceremony was scheduled to coincide with the opening of the International Congress on “Social adaptation, support and healthcare for elderly people in the modern society”, which gathered leading domestic and international scientists within the walls of Lenexpo exhibition center.

Among dignitaries who attended the ceremony were: Olga Kazanskaya, the Vice-Governor of St. Petersburg; А. N. Business and government incorporation has become the subject of a round-table discussion “Social services development. Government and business interaction”, which took place on the 11^th of April at Lenexpo. This event was held as a part of the forum’s program “Senior Generation”. It was organised by non-commercial partnership “Alliance of service industries for the senior generation”.

The meeting was opened by Ms. Kazanskaya Olga, vice-governor of St. Petersburg. The representatives of the Institute of Labor and Social Security, the experts of the "Center for Strategic Research" North-West ", the employees of such organizations as: "Marketing, Consulting, Design " JSC, Academy of Business "Ernst & Young”, NPO, “Guild of Managers and Developers, "and other representatives of the municipal business have participated in the discussion.

Ms. Olga Kazanskaya Olga highlighted the importance of the topic and emphasized the significance of development of social services through joint efforts of the government and business, since the existing model, due to which the social needs are financed only through the state budget funds, is outdated.

Mr. Valentin Roik, the deputy director of the Institute of Labor and Social Security reported on the European social services. Its key concept is the gerontological insurance, a program of citizens’ participation in financing of their retirement period.

Mr. Alexander Soynov, director-general of "Pansion" LLC reported on a successful example of cooperation between the government and businesses. His company is building a housing estate with a rehabilitation center for elderly people, he also highlighted the fact that this project is supported by the administration of St. Petersburg. His company has been provided with the land, operating costs will be also compensated. Some of the rooms in this center will be in return allocated for people with social security beneficiaries. There centers are in great demand but today paying capacity of the population remains the principle deterrent.

The round-table discussion has resulted in a decision to bring all top-notch ideas to the federal level and to find out the ways of organising a permanent expert site in order to investigate the concept more detail.

New training programs are developed for social workers

The first business event of the VII International Forum "Senior Generation" which was opened today at Lenexpo, was the conference "Ethical and professional aspects of care for elderly and disabled persons."

The conference addressed issues associated with training of social workers, development of information technologies in social services, improving quality of life of elderly people living in social service homes and aid to elderly patients with unsound mind.

The following participants delivered their reports at the conference: Chair of Nursing and Clinical Practice Department of the North-West State Medical University n.a. I.I. Mechnikov - Natalia Turkina, Dean of the Faculty of Higher Nursing Education, Psychology and Social Work of the First Moscow State Medical University n.a. I. Sechenov - Natalia Kamynina, Professor of the General Practice Department of the St. Petersburg State Medical University n.a. Acad. I.P. Pavlov - Igor Bozhkov, expert from SCA Hygiene Products Alexandra Popova and other representatives of social and medical sphere, education and business.

According to Natalia Turkina, Russia accumulates actively an experience of social workers training in patient care basics, for example, since 2009 special training programs for social workers have been realised at the North-West State Medical University n.a. I.I. Mechnikov. "The training is provided free of charge" - she said.

Natalia Kamynina told that 20 years of nurse training at the higher school brought excellent results. The Social Workers Department was opened just recently, and it's a new experience for the University. The University makes an extensive use of feedback practice in its educational programs for social workers, in particular, questioning is conducted, which allows the University to create training program based on the issues interesting for some particular group.

According to Igor Bozhkov, quality of life of both elderly people and professional staff dealing with them shall be addressed more often. "Interaction and care for elderly and disabled patients who can hardly control their physiological functions and behavior, is a very complex task affecting quality of life - both from medical and social and economic point of view. In many cases it leads to professional "burnout" of social workers"- he added.

Closing ceremony of the Forum "Festive Decoration. Advertising and Information": awarded the most creative and talented participants

On April 6 a great awarding ceremony for the winners of the competitions in the area of social advertising, photojournalism and decoration arts took place at Lenexpo, thus completing the II Forum "Festive Decoration. Advertising and Information".

In particular, results of the regional stage of the third Russian competition of social advertising "New Look" were defined. Expert evaluation was performed by the Organising Committee, consisting of representatives from government, public associations and advertising companies of the city.

The best social posters were presented by Konstantin Zaytsev (1^st place in the "Healthy Lifestyle" category), Michael Chadchenko (3^rd place in the "My Family Is My Treasure" category), Ella Zosimenko (2^nd place in the "Sports Country" category), Marianne Nikulshina (1^st place in the "Road of Good Deeds" category), Paulina Savenkova (2^nd place in the "Road of Good Deeds" category), Victoria Berezina (1^st place in the "Life Security" category), Tatyana Padalka (3^rd place in the "Save Nature" category).

Then the turn for awards came to the winners of the contest "Tell The World 2012." The participants presented images of such socially important topics as the year of history in Russia, healthy lifestyle, attention and care of parents and relatives, cultural behavior in public places, energy saving, prevention of Internet addiction. The contest is a part of the III St. Petersburg Festival of Social Advertising "MiruMir", organized by the Center of Social Marketing "Social Vox". This event is also supported by the Administration of Saint Petersburg, leading universities of the city and Autonomous Nonprofit Organization "Laboratory of Social Advertising."

The winners were chosen by Russian photographers, advertising specialists. As a result, the winners were Vsevolod Veselov (1^st place), Alexander Malkov (2^nd place), Maxim Mustafayev (3^rd place). In the competition of decoration arts "Prof-Trend" St. Petersburg State Unitary Enterprise "Gorelectrotrans" was honored which contributed greatly to the festive decoration of St. Petersburg and, thus, to keeping New Year's mood among the citizens. The diploma was presented by the Director of the Forum "Festive Decoration. Advertising and Information" Natalia Pilatova. Social Advertising Regulation Discussed at Lenexpo

The VIII meeting of the Advertising Coordination Committee under the Interstate Council for Antimonopoly Policy of the CIS countries (ICAP) was held as the first event within the business program of the Festive Decoration. Advertising and Information Forum. The meeting agenda covered the topical issues of law enforcement and the practice of state regulation in advertising, including social one.

Vice-President of Saint Petersburg Vasily Kichedzhi welcomed the participants of the meeting attended by the representatives of ten countries: Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan. A number of experts were invited to take part in the meeting, among them: Head of the Antimonopoly Supervision Department within the Leningrad Region Directorate of the Federal Antimonopoly Service of Russia Igor Bobrov, State Inspector of the Leningrad Region Directorate of the Federal Antimonopoly Service of Russia Marina Nerinovskaya, and other public officers and advertising business representatives.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Vice-Governor of Saint Petersburg Vasily Kichedzhi and the Chairman of the Press and Mass Media Cooperation Committee Alexander Lobkov answered the questions related to the practice of social advertising placement social advertising in Saint Petersburg. According to Mr. Lobkov, this issue is addressed being discussed in cooperation with the outdoor advertising operators of the city who are well aware of their social responsibility.

The Deputy Head of the Federal Antimonopoly Service of Russia Andrey Kashevarov reported on the topical issues of domestic advertising market regulation. He mentioned that antimonopoly authorities had initiated 5,451 proceedings related to advertising law violation in 2011, with inadequate advertising accounting for 15.7% of violations.

The Head of the ICAP Secretariat Azam Usmanov reported on the advertising practice in Kazakhstan. According to Mr. Usmanov, the authorities undertook 10 investigations related to the antimonopoly law violation in 2011, with 9 of them resulting in administrative proceedings.

In the Republic of Azerbaijan, about 40% of violations are connected with inappropriate advertising. Inadequate information disseminated about the features of products and services, their price, origin and use conditions was often the case. To prevent the advertising law violation the Antimonopoly Service developed a number of special measures that have already proven to be effective. The Manager of Consumer Protection Department of the State Antimonopoly and Consumer Protection Service under the Ministry of Economic Development of the Republic Azerbaijan Zajkhid Sharifov spoke to the point.

The Coordination Council also discussed the advertising campaign of MMM-2011, a new financial pyramid announced by Sergey Mavrodi. As posted on the Internet, the MMM-2011 scheme enables its participants to draw a 20% income every month. The problem provoked heated debates, and various mechanisms participants were suggested various mechanisms to counteract the creation of new financial pyramid.

Festive Decoration. Advertising and Information Forum Has Started

The 2^d International Festive Decoration. Advertising and Information Forum, a key event in the North-West Region that focuses on outdoor advertising, city decoration and other advertising market segments, has started at Lenexpo Exhibition Complex.

The official opening ceremony was attended by Vice-Governor of Saint Petersburg Vasily Kichedzhi, Deputy Head of the Federal Antimonopoly Service of Russia Andrey Kasheverov, Chairman of the Press and Mass Media Cooperation Committee Alexander Lobkov, CEO of ExpoForum JSC Sergey Voronkov, and Vice-President of the Russian Association of Communication Agencies Sergey Pilatov.

According to Mr. Kichedzhi, advertising media make the city image, which is essential for such a big tourist destination, as Saint Petersburg. Today, social advertising is increasingly important in our city and draws attention to the problems of our community and their possible solutions. The Vice-Governor said that the advertising media highlighted such concerns of municipal authorities as tolerance issues and housing and public utilities sector. Moreover, Vasily Kichedzhi believes that the Forum is an effective platform where the experts from all over the world can share experience and form new trends in the advertising industry development.

After the opening ceremony, the honorary guests visited the exhibition where companies from both St. Petersburg and other cities presented the industry novelties. Mr. Kichedzhi mentioned that the festive decoration samples displayed at the exhibition could emphasize more the unique architecture of the city. According to the Vice-Governor, the outdoor advertising exhibits would not only communicate commercial and social information to people but also become important elements of city design.

Being the biggest b2b event in the North-West Region, the Festive Decoration, Advertising and Information Forum includes the exhibition and extensive business program. The Ideas Fair competition will enable the manufacturers to present their projects directly to the customers. The winners’ ideas will be used for 2013 New Year's decoration of Saint Petersburg.

Innovative technologies of water and water objects purification are being developed in Petersburg

Technology of water purification and recovery of water objects became the principal topic of the seminar “Innovative Ecological Technologies and Equipment” which took place on March 22nd within the forum “Big City Ecology 2012”. Guests from Czech Republic on behalf of the Director General of the company “CzechTrade” Ivan Nikl, Association of industrial and ecological innovation companies from Nizhnevartovsk city and representatives of State Unitary Enterprise “Vodokanal Saint-Peterburg” shared the experience in this area.

Valery Kolosov told in his report about bottom cleaning works which are carried out in the territory of Saint-Petersburg since 1993. He reported that in 2011 works were carried out in the Fontanka river and the Obvodny channel, the total amount of the taken out bottom ground deposits made 71,100 sq.m. In 2012 it is planned to continue cleaning these objects, but also to begin works in the river Volkovka. “About 100 million roubles from the city budget are spent annually on actions of water currents cleaning”, he added.

Except cleaning of rivers and channels, recovery of isolated water objects of cultural heritage is carried out in Saint-Petersburg. Works on recovery of six objects were carried out in 2011 (pond on Tverskaya street, pond on Polyustrovsky prospect, pond on Stachek prospect 156, 3rd Northern pond, 1st Northern pond on Krestovsky Island), the amount of bottom ground deposits taken out made 37,230 sq.m.

Hydraulic engineering constructions management systems of Petersburg were presented by the Head of Hydraulic Engineering Constructions Safety Department of Environmental Management Committee Ilya Shishkin. He noted that repair works are carried out every year on various hydraulic engineering constructions of the city, for example in 2011 installation of working lock was made at the dike of the Rzhev hydrosite and flowage of Dolgoye lake hydrosystem was recovered. Plans for 2012 are as follows: major maintenance of the dike No. 3 of the Izhora gathering pond and GTS of the Zavodskoy channel which adverse condition prevents drain of waters and lowers ecological safety of the Neva River.

The Chief Specialist of Emergency Works Coordination Department of Environmental Management Committee of Saint-Petersburg Igor Khamidulin made his report on safety in case of oil and oil products spills. For this purpose a system for liquidation of emergencies of ecological nature has been created in the city , and an icebreaker ship has been constructed. The ship called “Nevsky Outpost” is equipped with up-to-date equipment and can pass across Neva without bridge raising, unlike other 14 vessels belonging to the city which cannot work in the water area of Neva because of their sizes. The icebreaker ship is intended to destruct ice accumulations, liquidate fires in the coastal territory and on other vessels, and also for liquidation of oil spills, thus oil remains collected will contain no more than 5 % of water.

A new event has been put on the program of international conference "Motor Transport Upgrading – Strategy 2020".

Included in the list of the conference topics was report “The introduction of modern information technology to manage urban passenger transport and organisation of fare collection” to be delivered by Igor Mailov, First Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Transport of St. Petersburg. The topic will be dealt with in a more detailed way at the traveling seminar hosed by the Committee for Transport of St. Petersburg to be arranged after the report where the participants will be able to familiarise themselves with innovative technologies for urban transport management and discuss the issues of relevance to them with top officials of the city administration.

Additionally, on April 12 and April 13 (correspondingly) a Russian-Polish round table of motor car component manufacturers and round table “Ecological innovations in the sphere of provision for megapolis road transport complex safety” will be held.

Changes in legislation are necessary for development of ecological damage liquidation system

Within XII International forum “Big City Ecology” a round table called “Liquidation of Ecological Damage, Including Connected with Last Business Activities (Recultivation of Territories)” took place on March 21st, 2012.

The Head of Department of Ensuring Ecological Wellbeing of the Territories of Environmental Management, Environmental Protection and Ecological Safety Provision Committee of Saint-Petersburg Dmitry Krutoy, the Chief Specialist of Russian Geoecological Center – branch FGUGP “Urangeo” Andrey Gorky and other specialists of the industry made speeches at the event.

As Dmitry Krutoy pointed out, liquidation of ecological damage is a question which requires a serious approach and decision. Taking into account that this problem was neither solved at all in Soviet period nor during the recent history of Russia, experience exchange in the issue of ecological damage liquidation, including connected with last business activities on territories of cities is very important.

During his speech Dmitry Krutoy acquainted participants of the round table with the experience of recultivation of polluted territories in Petersburg. According to him, the city started solving this task three years ago. As a result, the dump of Kozitsky plant on Vasilyevsky Island was destroyed and this year works on recultivation of the territory of the dump on Staroobryadcheskaya street are to come to their end.

- To be sure that the territory has been cleared, our accredited laboratories subsequently make sampling based on which we come to conclusions if the ecological situation on the given or other site is favorable, Dmitry Krutoy notes.

In her turn, the specialist of Saint-Petersburg State University Veronica Tarbayeva underlined a need to modify legislation existing in Russia, which is required by modern realities of nature protection activities. In particular, in her opinion, a need to bring at legislative level definitions of concepts such as “ecological damage”, “liquidations of ecological damage” and so forth ripened long ago already.

Andrey Gorky spoke about a need to reshape old industrial platforms. He noted that availability of polluted industrial territories leads to large-scale environmental problems. Besides, not used territories do not make profit for the city budget and thwarts progress of the city infrastructure.

During the round table questions of modern technologies use for ecological damage liquidation, carrying out ecological inspection of polluted lands, technologies of remediation of city soils and so forth were also discussed.

Specialists of Petersburg and EU countries discussed systems of sanitary cleaning of cities

On March 21^st, a round table called “System of Sanitary Cleaning of Cities” passed within the international forum “Big City Ecology” .

The event moderator was the Head of Waste Management Accounting and Control Department of the Consumption and Industrial Waste Management Leonid Shimarek.

The Head of Development and Project Investment Department of Production and Consumption Waste Management Denis Zavyalov, the Project Director of Aktor S.A. Costas Triantafillou, the Director General of “Improvement and Waste Management” Alexey Gurnev, the Director of Boliden Commercial AB company Olov Boman, the Commercial Director of L&T Recoil company Pekka Kohonen and other specialists participated in the meeting.

According to Alexey Gurnev, you can talk about an innovative approach to development of schemes for sanitary cleaning in cities of Russian Federation and automated management and control only in case of existence of a single state policy for waste management.

The subject of implementation of innovative technologies for solid waste recycling in Saint-Petersburg was also mentioned by Denis Zavyalov. He noted that the most prospective and safe technology of waste recycling is plasma gasification.

Besides, such questions as production of solid fuel from waste, collection and recycling of used lubricant oils in Finland and possibility of cooperation with Russia, as well as construction of grounds for burial of waste with use of geosynthetic materials were discussed during the round table .

Conference “Production and Consumption Waste Management” passed at the forum “Big City Ecology”

On March 21st the conference “Production and Consumption Waste Management. Russian and International Experience” took place within the business program of the forum, during which specialists of Russia, Germany, Finland and Japan discussed problems of choice and introduction of equipment, technologies, services allowing to use and neutralize waste.

Reports were made by the representative of Production and Consumption Waste Management of Accomplishment Committee of Saint-Petersburg Government Victoria Sobolyakova, the representative of “Shtadtraynigung Gamburg” Rudiger Zihau, the Specialist of Environment of the City of Turku Protection Department Mikko Ekonenn and others.

Victoria Sobolyakova spoke about structure of waste management system in Saint-Petersburg as well as investment projects directed to enhancement of the system. According to her, the city concluded a partnership agreement with an investor for construction of new waste recycling plant in Levashovo town.

Rudiger Zihau shared his experience in organization of events directed to environmental protection in the process of waste management in Hamburg. He noted that burials of waste are harmful and, besides , expensive, with respect thereto since 2005 burial of not processed waste has been prohibited in Germany .

Besides, such questions as development of dangerous waste collection system, waste management legal regulation in different countries and use of secondary raw materials in Europe were brought up at the conference.

Conference “Topical Issues of Environmental Protection in the Cities of Russia” took place in Lenexpo

On March 20th, 2012 within the XII International forum “Big City Ecology” the conference “Topical Issues of Environmental Protection in the Cities of Russia” took place. The conference was preceded by ceremony of official opening of the forum.

The chairman of Committee on Environmental Management, Environmental Protection and Ecological Safety Provision of Saint-Petersburg, Merited Ecologist of Russia Dmitry Golubev and the Chief Executive of ZAO “Expoforum”, the Director General of OOO “Lenexpo” Sergey Voronkov took part in the ceremony of official opening of the exhibition. Besides, on its opening day the exhibition was visited by the Vice Governor of Saint-Petersburg Sergey Kozyrev. According to him, he saw at the forum a set of essentially new developments in the environmental protection sphere.

According to Dmitry Golubev, in 2012 the forum completely changed its format, now it is oriented to representatives of nature protection bodies of Russian Federation, suppliers and producers of equipment and services used in case of solution of nature protection tasks in the territory of cities.

Sergey Voronkov, on behalf of the organizer of the exhibition - ZAO “Expoforum”, thanked all who took part in organization of “Big City Ecology” for their support thanks to which such a large and significant project capable to solve important ecological problems has been possible to be created. “I am sure that its carrying out will allow Saint-Petersburg to keep its line as the region going in vanguard of all territorial subjects of Federation in environmental protection problems solution”, he said.

Reports at the conference were made by the Deputy Manager of Environmental Management and Environmental Protection Department of Moscow Sergey Melnikov, the Deputy Chief of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Department of Tomsk Region Igor Tarasov and other specialists.

Dmitry Golubev told about ecological policy of Saint-Petersburg. He noted that strategic objective of ecological policy is providing a favorable state of environment. “Special monitoring systems conforming to state standards are created for assessment of environment state in the city”, he added.

Sergey Melnikov shared his experience in solution of environmental problems in Moscow and noted that all Russian cities experience the same ecological difficulties, but each city copes with them in its own way.

The Deputy Director General of “Institute of Territorial Planning “Urabnika” Alexander Kholodov is sure that strategic planning of sustainable development of the city is an effective instrument of implementation of municipal ecological policy. He offered an accurate planning framework and noted that effective planning can increase quality of municipal management and city environment.

Information support of nature protection activities discussed in Lenexpo

International experience in creation and operation of state information systems in the sphere of protection of environment was shared by participants of the seminar “Information Support of Nature Protection Activities” which took place within the exhibition “Big City Ecology-2012” on March, 20th.

The Vice-Chairman of Committee on Environmental Management, Environmental Protection and Ecological Safety Provision of Saint-Petersburg Nikolay Sorokin, the Head of State Regulation Management Department in the Environmental Protection Sphere Dmitry Frank-Kamenetsky, the Head of Consulting Services Department of Finnish Meteorological Institute Harry Pietarila and other specialists of the industry made speeches during the event.

Dmitry Frank-Kamenetsky noted that creation of the Russian state information system in the sphere of nature protection activities became possible thanks to the Federal law “About environmental protection”. He especially noted that all information containing in the system, with some rare exceptions, is public.

Harry Pietarila shared his experience in organization of the ecological information system in Finland. The system is called “SmartMet” and comprises meteorological data, information on quality of air, and also allows to perform analysis and situation forecasting. Summing up his speech he hoped for continuation and development of existing programs of Russian-Finnish cooperation in the field of nature protection activities.

Participants of the seminar showed interest in the subject and showered speakers with lots of questions.

Forum “Ecology of Big City-2012" having begun its work

The first business event of the Forum was seminar “Geological Risks in Urban Areas” whereat geological problems of St. Petersburg and ways of their solution were discussed.

As part of the event, reports were delivered by Nikolay Sorokin, Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Nature Use, Environmental Protection and Ecological Safety of St. Petersburg, Ivan Serebritsky, Head of Department for the State Regulation in the Field of Nature Use and Environmental Protection, Dmitry Frank-Kamenetsky, Head of Division for Governmental regulation of Nature use and environmental protection and other branch specialists.

According to Ivan Serebritsky, surveys are being undertaken in St. Petersburg aimed at geological problems detection which enables their timely solution without negative consequences.

Dmitry Frank-Kamenetsky dwelt on the topic of accounting for geological risks in the course of above-ground construction. He noted that work had been carried out for evaluation of geological risk of St. Petersburg; however, the methodology in place is imperfect and requires improvement, in particular – through accounting for climatic changes.

Additionally, the representative of VSEGEI Elena Nesterova spoke of hazardous exogenous processes and problems of coast protection in the resort districts of St. Petersburg. Nikolay Philippov, Director of “Mineral” State Unitary Company, reported on the problem of St. Petersburg underflooding. Andrey Gorky, Senior Expert of the Russian Geoecological Centre – branch of “Urangeo” Federal State Unitary Company, delivered a report on the natural component of the radiation risk factor in St. Petersburg.

According to the event participants, the seminar became a critical information venues for effective exchange of experience in evaluation of geological risks within urban areas in general and St. Petersburg – in particular.

Let us mark here that charity is a special profile in the activity of JSC ExpoForum. In the year 2011 instead of the lost historical temple built upon the project of Jacomo Quarenghi and destroyed during the World War II construction of the Church of Smolenskaya Icon of the God’s Mother started. The remains of the church foundations and the single-floor house of clergy of a parish located nearby were discovered in the land plot where ExpoForum is implementing the project of construction of a new convention-exhibition centre. The company reached to a decision to pay the tribute to the memory of the great Italian architect and the people of Pulkovo settlement destroyed during the war who made up the parish of the church, as well as to reconstruct the church by the drawings of the architect and from the photographs kept in the archive.

Being the largest children-oriented project in the North-West of Russia, for over 11 years of work The Childhood Planet has become a significant city event and turned into the well-known and popular brand among parents and specialists. Apart from exposition of goods and services, the exhibition is annually accompanied by the interesting and urgent business program. The Childhood Planet project has confirmed its high status with the assignment of the Russian Exhibition and Fair Union Mark.

The Children Planet comprises the exhibition space divided into several thematic blocks, the extensive business program and the colorful entertainment part. Besides, along with the exhibition the Saint Petersburg – a Child-Friendly City forum will take place for the second year from now on.

Representatives of St.Petersburg diplomatic corps and international companies have visited ExpoForum

On February 17, a meeting was held with participation of managment of ExpoForum JSC, representatives of diplomatic corps of Saint-Petersburg and commercial representative offices. This was the closing meeting for series of annual events for the company's partners held in business lunch format. This tradition was established in February of 2012.

For a few days in February, representatives of public authorities, business structures, various associations and other organisations attended the meeting with the company's management, in order to discuss informally the main trends in the convention and exhibition market in Saint-Petersburg.

The meeting held on February 17 was attended by consulates and heads of commercial representatives of international companies. Executive director of ExpoForum JSC Sergey Vononkov informed participants about company development strategy under slogan 'Convention and exhibition business: today and tomorrow. Expomobile for Saint-Petersburg'. He called two-way traffic creation of two international departments of ExpoForum company – Department of international promotion and sales, aimed at attraction of foreign partners to Russia, and Department of international events, aimed at organisation of participation of Russian companies in international projects.

It was generally agreed that format of the meeting was interesting and peculiar. It was noted by a lot of guests that it was very important to learn all the news about the company from personal meeting with its management, rather than from mass media.

Director of Trade Exchange Department of the Embassy of the Italian Republic at the Consulate General of Italian Republic in Saint-Petersburg Mr. Carlo Ferrari told about positive experience of holding Italian and Russian forum at Lenexpo in 2009 and expressed confidence that the new team shall be so successful as well.

Mr. Kavabato noted that “exhibition business is mild politics, which reflects relations between countries and different economic structures".

Head of department of trade support department at Consulate General of Poland Mr. Khenrykh Bushta expressed confidence about perspectives of productive cooperation with ExpoForum – both with regard to representative offices of Polish companies in Saint-Petersburg, and with regard to promotion of Russian companies in Poland.

Consulate General of the USA Mr. Bruice Turner also wished successful development and remembered a proverb, which is rather popular in America: ‘Create occasion and conditions, and will be money'.

ExpoForum JSC starts a series of annual events for the company’s partners in business lunch format. For a few days in February, public authorities, representatives of business structures and various associations shall attend the meeting with the company’s management, in order to discuss trends in the convention and exhibition market and the strategy of its development. The meetings will take place at Lenexpo.

In 2011, two important events directly connected with the business activity of ExpoForum JSC took place in St.Petersburg. They defined vector of development of the relevant industry for the nearest 10 years. The company has purchased exhibition business of Lenexpo JSC. After that, becoming the largest organiser of exhibitions within the specific region, the company launched construction of new international convention and exhibition centre (CEC) which shall become the most state-of-the-art place for various business events in Russia.

ExpoForum and Ministry of Agriculture of Russia will jointly hold four exhibitions in 2012

Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation Elena Skrynnik signed a Decree on Fairs and Exhibitions held by Ministry of Agriculture of Russia in 2012. In compliance with the document dated February, 3, Ministry of Agriculture of Russia jointly with ExpoForum JSC acts as a co-organizer of the Fair "Agrorus”, as well as it provides support to three other exhibitions of the company: “Hipposphere”, “Zoosphere” and “Bioindustry”.

For two dozen years of its existence the International Agricultural Trade Fair “Agrorus’” won great popularity among the Russians, having become a genuine people’s fair. At present “Agrorus’” is the second important Agricultural Trade Fair of the country. Its scale is testified by statistical data : in 2011 «Agrorus’» was visited by 149 thousand guests approximately, the products were shown by 1500 companies, including farmers, peasants’ households and enterprises 45 regions of Russia, as well as from near and far foreign countries. The extensive program included presentations, conferences, round tables, seminars on the most important issues Agricultural Complex development. The open site of the exhibition occupied the whole territory of Lenexpo. During seven days 272 tons of vegetables, 28 tons of foxberry and bilberry, 235 tons of sausages and meat products, 65 tons of milk products, 650 tons of honey, 35 tons of fish products were sold at the fair. In 2012 “Agrorus’” fair will take place traditionally at Lenexpo on August, 27 – September, 2.

Saint-Petersburg International Exhibition of Horses and Ponies, products and services for equestrian sport and riding “Hipposphere” will take place on May 4 – 6 at Lenexpo. During many years “Hipposphere” has been one of the most complicated from organisational point of view exhibitions by the company, as within its framework equestrian competitions, festivals and parades with participation of more than 200 horses, brought from Russia and foreign countries, took place. That’s why at present “Hipposphere” is not just a forum of equestrian industry representatives, where specialists could discuss the urgent issues but also the urban festival, loved by citizens of St.Petersburg.

The Fair “Zoosphere” is the largest exhibition of products and services for pets in Russia. Being launched and realised organisationally and creatively in the city on the Neva River, the Fair “Zoosphere” for the last years has contributed a lot to the development of the domestic zoo-business. By exposition and business program organisation level it is considered to be one the leading European zoo-industry fairs. The Fair confirmed its high status, by getting approval of UFI (Global Association of the Exhibition Industry), as well as by being awarded with the Sign of the Russian Union of Exhibitions and Fairs. In 2012 “Zoosphere” will take place on October, 11-13 at Lenexpo.

During the same dates with “Zoosphere” in the territory of the exhibition complex an exhibition and conference called “Bioindustry” will be opened, also supported by Ministry of Agriculture of Russia. For the first time “Bioindustry” took place in spring of 2011. It was the first in Russia exhibition project, presenting innovation solutions for reproduction, functioning and expedient development of living organisms and their habitats. In “Bioindustry” participate organisations and commercial firms, specialising in different fields: carrying out fundamental research, development of bio-technologies, production of products for laboratories and bio-productions, development of bio-products.

Participation of the Government of the Russian federation in holding of exhibitions “Agrorus’”, “Hipposphere”, “Zoosphere” and “Bioindustry”, allows to extend a program of events and mobilise for participation in those exhibitions heads of authorities and business communities both from Russian regions and from abroad, which is an important contribution into development of the whole agricultural complex sphere of the country.

The Baltic Marine Festival. Approved by UFI

At the last assembly of directors of the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry (UFI) the Baltic Marine Festival was given the status of “Approved by UFI” (UFI Approved Event). To date, the certificate of UFI has already endorsed 8 of the 36 exhibition projects of ExpoForum. Among them are such exhibitions as "The Russian industrialist", "The Saint Petersburg International Book Salon", "Power and Electrical Engineering", "Welding", "Zoosfera", etc. This given status is a credit of trust, a mark of quality given by UFI, and which affirms absolute transparency of the occupied areas, exhibitors and visitors. Receiving the status of an UFI Approved Event is especially important for attraction of foreign participants, and for cooperation with the international organisations. Thus, the Baltic Marine Festival, which will take place in St. Petersburg on 31 May-3 June 2012 became the only boat show in Russia endorsed by UFI.

On the 9th of February at the St. Petersburg mediacentre RIA News was held a press conference dedicated to the XII International Forum, Ecology of Big City, which will take place in Lenexpo from the 20th to the 23rd of March, 2012.

Attending the press conference were the current Vice-Governor of St. Petersburg, Sergey Kozyrev, the chairman of Committee for Nature Use, Environmental Protection and Ecological Safety of St. Petersburg, Dmitry Golubev, the executive director of ExpoForum JSC and general director of Lenexpo JSC, Sergey Voronkov, and the general director of Vodokanal of St. Petersburg, Felix Karmazinov. The event was attended by more than 30 media representatives, among which were leading TV channels and radio stations, St. Petersburg news agencies, and representatives of the press.

The forum is the second of this scale and theme among convention and exhibition projects in Russia. It is important that it is taking place in a city like St. Petersburg, the northern capital, as with its nearly two million cars, is well acquainted with a full range of environmental issues. However, today it boasts better statistics than many other European cities. In particular, as noted by Sergey Kozyrev, now in St Petersburg about 95% of water is cleared of effluents, while in Brussels, the political centre of the European Union, only 78%.

In Russia today, the ecological market is one of its most quickly developing. According to Sergey Voronkov, the volume of investment into ecological programs and activities, judging only by official statistics, is estimated to be at around 8 billion rubles per year, and with an annual growth rate of about 20%.

The development of ecologically-oriented business in Russia in recent years has been without proper coordination and support mechanisms. Now, it has become obvious that in order to achieve a balance between the interests of government and business, while also providing a favourable environment, it is necessary to create a flexible and effective mechanism of interaction between environmental and market structures. This is the main objective of Ecology of Big City.

In 2012, in the leading role in the forum are representatives of the environmental authorities on the issues of the Russian Federation, and who will articulate the needs of the state in the field of environmental protection. In turn, representatives of business structures are also able to present potential government customers with their technology and designs. "Thus, Ecology of Big City becomes a platform for addressing critical environmental issues, and even allows the possibility for young companies to successfully enter this market,” explained Sergey Voronkov.

The international forum, Ecology of Big City, includes the activities of the business program, among which Dmitry Golubev especially observed, "Were the actual issues of environmental protection in the cities of Russia”, and five thematic blocks of exhibition expositions where the latest developments of Russian and foreign companies will be presented. One of the key players has traditionally been Vodokanal of St. Petersburg, on whose stand will be demonstrated the unique aquatic-ecology projects of the city – explaining about the progress that has already been made, and the challenges that still lie ahead. According to Felix Karmazinov, precisely the Petersburg environment is of paramount importance, as our city is a recognised leader in addressing many eco-problems.

In addition, in a separate sector of the forum, Ecology of Big City, will be a presentation area where participants will have an opportunity to present their products. Experts and journalists will be able to take unique excursions of nature protection projects of St. Petersburg. The forum will be useful even for visitors far from the professional environmental community. On all working days in the territory of Lenexpo will be on-duty Ecomobil – a mobile disposal point for hazardous materials. Here, citizens can dispose of out-of-date fluorescent lamps, mercury thermometers, batteries, car batteries, and energy-saving lamps.

Partnership of ExpoForum and the countries of Asia is stepping onto a higher level

Development of international projects and the attraction of the convention and exhibition market of St. Petersburg to major international organisers is one of the priority directions in the activities of ExpoForum JSC. In January 2012, there have been several events that not only were the impetus for cooperation between companies and countries of Asia, but also in the future could play an important role in fostering cultural and business ties between states.

In January, the management of ExpoForum JSC received an invitation to take part in a meeting of the Japanese business club, which will be held in March 2012. The company will present a project for a new convention and exhibition centre and will tell about the only specialised exhibition complex in St. Petersburg, Lenexpo and other prospects, which will be opened to exhibitors participating in exhibitions in Russia.

The lines of exhibition activities being held in Lenexpo and ExpoForum are able to refill with new promising projects: the Russian-Arab Business counsel at ExpoForum JSC with a proposal to hold an exhibition of Arab companies in the summer of 2013, and at a meeting at the Consulate General of India in St. Petersburg there has been considerable discussion of holding two national exhibitions of Indian goods and handicrafts in 2012 at Lenexpo.

Active cooperation is continuing between ExpoForum and the Chinese people’s association for friendship with foreign countries. At a regular meeting in Moscow with the deputy head of the committee for economic cooperation of society, Jing Bo, an agreement was confirmed for the joint involvement of Chinese participants at the St. Petersburg International Gas Forum 2012.

In addition, on January 31, 2012, in Moscow was the first meeting of the working group for convention and exhibition activities in the business council of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO). The Vice-Chairman of the working group for the SCO business council was elected head of the Department of international promotion and sales of ExpoForum, Igor Pozdnyakov. The meeting was attended by the Executive Secretary of the SCO business council, Sergey Kanavski, representatives of the largest exhibition centres in Russia, and the SCO business club. Participants of the meeting were presented the projects of ExpoForum JSC: the St. Petersburg International Gas Forum 2012, which is expected to be actively involved as a key for the SCO countries like the People’s Republic of China, as well as the joint development with Chinese partners of the project 'The Educational Space of Modernisation'.

ExpoForum presented the Baltic Marine Festival in Germany

ExpoForum presented the project, The Baltic Sea Festival, at exhibition of yachts and powerboats Boot 2012 in Dusseldorf from the 21st to the 29th of January 2012. Today, Boot is one of largest international projects in the yacht market, and where seventeen thematic pavilions of the exhibition centre Messe Düsseldorf unfurled into an exposition of more than 1600 participants from 62 countries.

At a joint stand of Russian companies, which was organised by ExpoForum JSC, besides the project, The Baltic Marine Festival, was also presented the shipbuilding enterprises Admiralty Shipyards and Petroset, as well as the famous magazine, Power & Sail Boats.

Representatives of ExpoForum JSC have carried out negotiations with the heads of Boot concerning the possibility of further cooperation, and have shown a film highlighting the Baltic Marine Festival, and have received important business contacts. The Baltic Marine Festival participated in a famous exhibition for the first time, and the fact that in 2011 its organiser became ExpoForum JSC was of particular interest from many players in the yachting market.

Director of Baltic Marine Festival, Anastasia Kobzeva, noted the main tendencies of the exhibition in Dusseldorf: “Despite the fact that the sector of active recreation and water sports is going through hard times, the organisers have managed to maintain stable indicators for population exposure and attendance. However, the lack of bright premier yachts, small expositions of some important companies, a presentation of a model line in the lower price range, and, most importantly, a plate bearing the inscription: ‘We Speak Russian!’ has shown that European manufacturers have high expectations for the Russian market.”

Real Estate fair moved to Lenexpo

In 2012, the largest exhibition of real estate in Russia will be held at Lenexpo. ExpoForumJSC and Vistavka Ltd have signed an agreement to hold the Real Estate Fair in the only specialised exhibition complex in t.Petersburg.

The XXIV Real Estate Fair, organised by Vistavka, will take place from the 30th of March until the 1st of April in pavilions 7 and 8. The fair has existed since the year 2000, and has since taken place twice a year thanks to the support of the St.Petersburg and Leningrad region governments. Today, it is the largest project of this type in all of Russia, uniting under one roof more than 400 companies and 30,000 visitors.

ExpoForum will be the operator of the exhibition complex until the end of 2013. The general director of the exhibition, Olga Shuldiner, explains why the decision was made to carry out the exhibition precisely at this location: “As of today, this is the only special purpose area for such large exhibition events in St. Petersburg, therefore the organisation of the exhibition in Lenexpo is a new stage of development of our project , which already occupies an area of more that 11,000 sq m,” noted the director, who then added, “And additionally, will include an actively formed exposition in an open area.”

The Brand, Real Estate Fair, includes three independent exhibition projects: “City Real Estate”, “Foreign Real Estate Salon”, and “Cottages and Country Construction”. This spring, the exhibition will take place in the same period as the VII St.Petersburg International Property Show , which , according to experts, will provide a synergistic effect that will increase attendance of both events.

General Director of ExpoForum JSC, Anatoly Erkulov, commented about the new partnership: “We are striving to form a pool of strategic partners, organisers of such exhibition projects, and which are leaders of their respective industries. The new Convention and Exhibition Centre “ExpoForum”, which opens in 2014, will be the platform where these exhibitions will take place at the highest level, and correspond to international standards."

ExpoForum took part in the Eurasian Event Forum

ExpoForum took part in the Eurasian Event Forum EFEA, which is held in St. Petersburg from January 18 till January 20, 2012.

This forum, whose organiser is the exhibition research and development centre R&C, was destined to become a communication site, enabling specialists of the meeting industry to establish international contacts and secure investments, as well as to an extent their own business relationships between participants in the Russian market and foreign countries.

The speakers who addressed the Forum were professionals from the MICE industry on the world level: CEO of UFI Paul Woodward, President of JWC GmbH Jochen Witt, CEO of ITE Group Russell Taylor and other experts, among whom there were famous economists, representatives of authority and business structures.

Executive Director of ExpoForum JSC and General Director of Lenexpo JSC Sergey Voronkov submitted the report within the framework of the round table “Exhibition business – 4-wheeled car: who is the runner?”, in which he told about the importance of exhibition centres for the development of the national economy.

Vice-president of UFI, President of the Russian Union of Exhibitions and Fairs and Vice-president of ExpoForum JSC Sergey Alexeev addressed the panel discussion on “Merger and acquisition in the exhibition market – single transaction or future market?” He also took part in the Expoclub's open meeting on “Exhibition and congress activities as a factor of social and economic development”, which was held during the Forum. Participants of the discussion summarised the results of their activities in 2011 and discussed trends of branch development.

The Eurasian Event Forum became the first large European meeting of representatives of the MICE industry in St. Petersburg in the last few years.

4 years of ExpoForum

ExpoForum JSC turned 4 years on January 18, 2012. The company has travelled within the short time the long way, gained high status and continues to implement its mission – to make St. Petersburg one of European convention and exhibition centre.

Last years were epochal both for ExpoForum JSC and for the entire meeting and exhibition business in St. Petersburg. Grand ceremony of ExpoForum Exhibition and Convention Centre construction commencement held in November 2011 was preceded by meticulous work: starting from research and concept creation to provision of the ready project for state expert examination and purchase of land plot. All of that was made in order to install in November 2011 pile to foundation of the new exhibition and convention centre.

According to provisions of general construction contract executed in August 2011, the first stage of the new centre will be constructed by LenSpetsSmu, JSC, which is one of the companies within Etalon Group.

Hotel operator which will control arrangement of hotels within the centre’s territory was selected in 2011; this operator is Hilton Worldwide. Thus hotels Hilton Saint Petersburg ExpoForum and Hampton by Hilton Saint Petersburg ExpoForum will be the first hotels opened by the well-known hotel chain in St. Petersburg.

Also, construction of the Church of Smolensk Mother of God Icon instead of the lost historical church, remains of which were discovered in the course of engineering survey works at the construction site of the future centre. With the Russian Orthodox Church’s blessing ExpoForum JSC had decided to reconstruct the church.

Another one outstanding event in the company’s life is purchase of exhibition business of Lenexpo JSC, and due to this fact ExpoForum JSC has become the most important exhibition organiser in the region. ExpoForum team was increased by 3.5 times due to transfer of former Lenexpo employees, involved in the process of events arrangement. As well ExpoForum has launched its first project in 2011 – St. Petersburg Gas Forum. Event coincided with 200-years anniversary of gas utilization in Russia is expected to be held annually and to become international from 2012.

On December 22, 2011 in Saint Petersburg ExpoForum JSC, TRANSTEC Neva Exhibitions JSC and East West Exhibition Management ltd. (EU) / Dolphin Exhibitions ltd. (UK) made a long-term agreement to jointly hold NEVA international exhibitions and conferences on shipbuilding, navigation, port industry and ocean and continental shelf development, for the period through to 2019. Furthermore, a parallel agreement is being planned in relation to TRANSTEC international transport exhibitions and integrated international conferences on ports development and shipbuilding.

In 2013, NEVA will for the last time take place at its traditional venue at LENEXPO. From 2015 and on, the exhibition will be held at the new international convention and exhibition centre ExpoForum, with construction scheduled to be completed by the end of 2013. The exhibition is growing by 15-20% annually. Considering this fast growth by 2015 LENEXPO will be physically incapable of accommodating the NEVA. The new and technically perfect exhibition and convention space that are easily modified for every special event and provided with well-developed infrastructure and circumspect logistics of the complex will help to keep this project of ours at the highest level and open new prospects for development, says Alexander Tikhomirov, the General Director of TRANSTEC Neva Exhibitions JSC.

NEVA is Russia’s leading and one of the world’s biggest civil marine exhibitions. Established in 1991 by joint order of the Ministry of Shipping Industry and Marine Ministry of the USSR, its 20^th anniversary celebrated in 2011, the event is currently held once every two years. Over 700 companies from 45 different countries participate in the exhibition with the support of the International Maritime Organization (IMO UN), Community of European Shipyards Association, Brussels (CESA), Ministry of Transport of theRussian Federation, Ministry of Industry and Trade of theRussian Federation, Marine Board of the Russian Government, Saint Petersburg Administration and Maritime Council by Saint Petersburg Administration.

The organizers of the event are also associated members of the International Association of Ports and Harbors, Japan (IAPH).

Gazprom begun construction of the largest exhibition centre in St. Petersburg

Today, Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Commitee, and Georgy Poltavchenko, Governor of St. Petersburg, took part in the ceremony dedicated to the launch of construction of St. Petersburg International Convention and Exhibition Centre "ExpoForum".

The new exhibition centre will become the largest in St. Petersburg and one of the largest in Europe. It will be a modern venue for business, cultural and entertaining events, such as congresses, exhibitions, forums, concerts and sports competitions. It is planned to open the center in 2014. Gazprom Group acts as the project contractor.
Alexey Miller and Georgy Poltavchenko took part in the ExpoForum foundation pile driving.
“Knowledge, experience and technology exchange is an impetus to the successful business development. I believe that creation of a modern congress and exhibition center will open new opportunities for Russian and foreign companies. In addition, the ExpoForum construction will play an important part for Saint Petersburg to become a largest business center in Europe. ExpoForum Strengthens its Team with New People

In November the number of personnel at ExpoForum JSC increased three-fold due to its merger with Lenexpo JSC, which organises events at the exhibition complex of the same name.

Most of these new employees, who number 120 people, will work in ExpoForum's directorate of conventions and exhibitions. This directorate will have a total of 9 departments responsible for organising the company's own events, as well as guest exhibitions, conventions and other events. In addition, they will include the departments for marketing and development, advertising, sales coordination and international promotion.

ExpoForum general director, Anatoly Erkulov, remarked that one of the new team's main goals is to determine roles and responsibilities in the framework of the new collective according to the company's new structure. He especially emphasized that it's important to do this while not violating the established processes for organising events at Lenexpo, which will continue to be carried out as usual.

ExpoForum Purchased Lenexpo's Exhibition Business

On 2 November ExpoForum JSC acquired Lenexpo's entire portfolio of exhibitions, making it now the largest St. Petersburg exhibition organiser.

ExpoForum purchased 37 trademarks, data bases of 10 exhibition projects, and the website www.lenexpo.ru. Among the acquired exhibitions are Agrorus, Russian Industrialist, Energy and Electrical Engineering, InterAeroCom, Zooshow, the St. Petersburg International Book Salon and others. Starting from 2012, all acquired exhibitions will be arranged by the new organiser.

After the opening of the ExpoForum convention and exhibition center in 2014, events will be held at this new venue.

ExpoForum general director Anatoly Erkulov explained, "We will actively develop the exhibition projects acquired from Lenexpo by increasing exhibition space, the number of participants and visitors. We will also launch new projects in areas that we consider the most promising in terms of the exhibition business. For instance, we have ambitious plans for the energy sector. Our goal is to bring the project that we started last year --- the St. Petersburg Gas Forum --- to the international level, and to increase the number of subtopics that are discussed."

Topical problems of Russian Housing Services system were discussed in “LENEXPO” Complex by the participants of the National Housing Convention

The National Convention “Favorable living conditions through efficient housing management” continued working in “LENEXPO” complex on October 20, 2011. Specialists from 62 Russian subjects, heads of housing managing companies, construction enterprises, scientists and others discussed legislation problems and financial sources, essential for realization of important field projects.

The plenary session in the Convention’s framework was attended by the Vice-Governor of St. Petersburg Sergey Kozirev, Deputy Minister of Regional development Mr. Anatoly Popov, Director General of Communal and Housing Fund Mr. Konstantin Tsitsin, the Chairman of Housing Department of Russian Federal Council Mr. Valery Parfenov and the Chairman of the Russian Public Council for social and demographic policy Ms. Elena Nikolaeva.

The Vice-Governor of St. Petersburg reminded that St. Petersburg was the first to launch housing reforms. He emphasized that “St. Petersburg needs Federal support as half of all houses are very old and require global renovation”. Old elevators are another serious problem in the City’s housing system which requires systematic approach.

The Deputy Minister of Regional Development Anatoly Popov was talking about the modern standards applied to house-managing companies. “First of all we should determine our requirements”. He believes that standards and constant control should be the priority in dealing with house-managing enterprises. Mr. Popov listed a number of State control measures to be put into operation soon: State control system, long-term communal rates, serious investments and voluntary certification of all managing companies.

Konstantin Tsitsin, the Director General of Housing and Communal Cooperation Fund was talking about Fund’s activity and positive changes in the Russian Housing System.

On October 20, 2011 the program offered two round-table discussions on the most topical problems: “Housing services quality and public control” and “Modern Housing Fund: problems and solutions. Modernization and renovation resources.”
