14 March 2017 150 EMPLOYERS PARTICIPATE IN A JOB FAIR
A citywide Job and Apprentice Position Fair was held on March 14 in Pavilion 7 of Lenexpo. The Fair operated not just as a venue where applicants met their potential employers, but also served as a training ground. Experts of the city Unemployment Centre held a score of events, including trainings, seminars and workshops, where they covered such issues as legal aspects of employment, social adaptation and provided on-spot career counseling.
According to representatives of the city Unemployment Centre, their database contains over 40,000 job offers as well as profiles of nearly 29,000 applicants. Such a substantial gap between the workforce supply and demand demonstrates that it is not always easy to find a qualified professional to fill a vacancy in certain industry sectors. Recruiters report that a number of applications sent in response to one job opening sometimes exceeds 200 and employers get overwhelmed with this avalanche of data. The advantage of the Job Fair is that employers meet applicants face-to-face and can ask questions or conduct a preliminary interview right on the spot.
Lenexpo has been hosting the Job Fair since 2009, and each year it helped many visitors to find new place of employment. This year, the Job Fair was attended by 150 employers and 30 institutions of higher and secondary education. All visitors received an up-to-date information concerning the situation on the local labour market and identified their prospective employers. Representatives of St. Petersburg Unemployment Centre also presented an electronic vacancy database containing tens of thousands of job offers and resumes. Such participants of the Job Fair as SUE Vodokanal of St. Petersburg, the JSC Klimov, St. Petersburg SFE Mostotrest, JSC Krasnodargazstroy, SUE St. Petersburg Metro, SUP Gorelektrotrans, Traffic Police of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region, JSC Gazpromneft Northwest were hiring personnel. Among the companies looking for new staff members were enterprises from different industry sectors, including manufacturing, construction, transport and communications, housing and utilities, education, culture and the arts, public health care, catering, trade, hospitality, etc.
The Job Fair was organized by St. Petersburg Labour and Employment Committee in partnership with the city Unemployment Centre.
